Execute or be executed

We have all heard the term ‘ideas are a dime a dozen’… so what does that really mean? In most cases if you have thought of a business idea, someone else has thought of it too. Think of the Apple iPOD… did Steve Jobs invent the MP3 player? Nobody really cares who invented it or that there are more than a dozen or so manufacturers… they just want an iPOD. Apple, understands the concept of execution (although we have seen times of questionable execution).
All too often, entrepreneurs around the world come up with ideas… companies are started every day, every hour, every minute. But only a select few survive…. the ones who understand that they need to execute their idea or their plan. Many of the greatest ideas and smartest people have failed because they failed to execute.
In order to execute, you need to create a culture of execution and of accountability. You need to hire the best people and give them the power to execute. And you need to constantly ask yourself, how can we execute this better? Because constant improvement is the hallmark of execution.
